About Dave T
Dave T is an innovator in funky smooth jazz! He's been an electric & upright bassist, keyboardist, composer, producer, and arranger for over 30 years. Dave T's goal is to bring his listeners a “one-of-a-kind” musical experience that is brilliant, funky, cool, stylish, fun and soul stirring!
Dave T hails from Queens New York City. His major influences began with his father Roland and his aunts Vivian and Catherine. Dave T's dad exposed him to a wide variety of musical styles and artists including Wes Montgomery, James Brown, Quincy Jones, Dionne Warwick and other greats. His Aunt Vivian played guitar and his Aunt Catherine played piano. Dave T was inspired to study the guitar and piano. He began playing the bass at age 14. Dave T's next greatest influence was the phenomenal musician and fellow Hamptonian Woodson Hopewell. While at Hampton University, Dave T joined the super jazz group Quazar and performed with RCA recording artist Weldon Irvine and jazz saxophonist Chris Vadala. After college, he returned to New York City and studied upright bass with jazz great, Eddie Gomez. Dave T also performed with the York Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the legendary Grammy award winning conductor JoAnn Falletta of the Buffalo Philharmonic. He also performed with jazz virtuoso Arthur Sterling, former pianist with John Coltrane.
Dave T has composed, produced and arranged songs for platinum Atlantic Records recording star, Shannon and R&B legend, Gerald Alston, lead singer of the Manhattans. He also wrote for dance recording star Norma Jean Wright, former singer with Chic and Luther Vandross. Dave T has toured with Tony award winning R&B legend, Melba Moore. He's also recorded with world acclaimed cellist Eugene Moye and Melvin Van Peebles. Dave T has “gigged” and recorded in the studio with a host of jazz and R&B legends throughout the years.
